Inside YCDTOTV: Jonny Rabbit (Artwork)

This guy Jon has literally been a part of my supportive team from the moment I spoke with him, pretty crazy if you ask me. Ive literally called & texted this guy countless amounts of times with ideas, thoughts and suggestions and he responds to me with such a positive attitude every single time that it somewhat scares me as I never seem to catch him at a bad time. That’s really the definition of a friend, someone who supports your mission and wants to the best for you. You know Jonny designed the cover for The Birth right? You know he is responsible for the ‘Drive By‘ artwork right? What about Veni Vidi Vici? Kirby’s Airwalk? This website? Let’s not even get into what we have coming in the next few months, you didn’t think he just stepped into this did you? I hope not. Whether AnmlHse front man Jonny knows this or not, he’s part of the family forever (echo that if you may). Take it away Sir Rabbit.

“First off, I can’t even express how humbling it is to work with Theo on a regular. He’s going to quote me on Twitter for this one guaranteed, but Theo Martins is like the Jay-Z of Rhode Island…he calls and you drop everything you’re doing. It’s just very amazing to collaborate with an artist of his caliber that works with you creatively to visually bring an idea to fruition.

I’m always ecstatic when Theo drops new singles, which I usually get through a news blast or go searching on 2DopeBoyz like the rest…unfortunately, no special treatment. When he asked me to work on the art for YCDTOTV, he also sent me an advance copy. While the compilation was getting heavy rotation on my iTunes that week, we contacted each other back and forth with ideas, references, and concept sketches. Knowing each other for the past couple of years made it a lot easier for us to know each others style and find a middle ground that worked well for this project.

After a few months, we finally found something that struck home. The final idea was based on a society which censors your thoughts and forces you to conform, resulting in an escape from the norm and into your own state of mind. The cover art is a representation of that: a visual reproduction of Theo’s prerogative, explosive delivery, and finesse all in one. I kept the cover very soft with a mix of solid pastel tones and used some watercolors for the main character. The back cover/alternate society is a mix of dark tones with some very recognizable silhouettes of a few of our favorite characters. It was a touch of simplicity, while still keeping it fun enough to be close to home for us.

I’m really excited to see the long awaited release of this project and looking forward to what Theo has in store for 2010. Look out folks”.
